High on the facade of the church at the Haili st. entrance is a round window showing the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, symbols of the priests and brothers of the Sacred Heart who were the first missionaries to serve in Hilo.

The Stained Glass Windows in the Church

The stained glass windows in the church were made by the Ford Brothers Glass Co. in Kansas City, Missouri and were a pioneering project for the company. St. Joseph is the only church in Hawaii with this type of American Stained glass. The windows depict the Apostles as well as St. Joseph, St. Michael The Archangel, an early vicar Apostolic of the Sacred Heart Community.
