The large stained glass window at the back Haili St. entrance of the church was blessed on April 21, 2000. This colorful window was constructed of unique glass from many places around the world. The artist was Mr. Joe Rivera of Honokaa. The window depicts a Trinitarian theme which includes an island mountain ocean backdrop.
High on the facade of the church at the Haili St. entrance is a round window showing the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, symbols of the priests and brothers of the Sacred Heart who were the first missionaries to serve in Hilo.
The stained glass windows in the church were made by the Ford Brothers Glass Co. in Kansas City, Missouri and were a pioneering project for the company. St. Joseph is the only church in Hawaii with this type of American Stained glass. The windows depict the Apostles as well as St. Joseph, St. Michael The Archangel, an early vicar Apostolic of the Sacred Heart Community.
The Sanctuary windows depict scenes from the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary: The Annunciation; The Crowning of Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth; The Scourging of Jesus; The Crucifixion; The Resurrection; and The Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles.
